A snippet of who I am

Everyone has a story. Here is a bit of mine:

My name is Jonathan Guzman. I'm a first-generation college student studying journalism at San Jose State University; however, I'm pursuing a career in Product Design.

I was born and raised in what is considered Silicon Valley. One might expect me to have a vast knowledge of tech and its thousands of career paths. But for a long time, I had no understanding of what tech was like. I grew up think one must code to get a job in tech. I was more into conversing and being creative, leading me to journalism.

During the early stages of the pandemic, my best friend and I started a small business that didn't take off. But I was in charge of the creative aspects of the company. I created flyers and built the website. Wow, making the website was fun. I spent hours trying to perfect a Shopify template. So I thought, "hey, I should look into graphic design. Maybe that could be fun." And I stumbled upon this job title called "Product Design." And since then, I have taught myself as much as possible.

This past summer I found my way into interning as a product designer at Quizlet. You may have heard of it. But I was found via Twitter. I tweeted a link to my portfolio. I was not expecting anything of it because I have about... 60 followers. However, a Design Manager at Quizlet emailed me a few days after I posted; the rest is history.

I am also the founding designer at a student-led startup, Rondivoo. We're making an events discovery app for college campuses. We are expecting to launch at the University of Southern California this fall.
